Welcome to my personal English learning blog!

MY NAME IS LEIDY LIZET VELANDIA BLANCO

Throughout my learning process, I have created videos, audios, oral presentations, and written texts that reflect who I am and what I have learned. This space collects my experiences, thoughts, and reflections on topics such as family, hobbies, work, travel, and important social issues. Each post represents a step in my journey of improving my English skills and becoming more confident in expressing myself in a second language.

My Family and Daily Life

Family is the foundation of my values, dreams, and emotional balance. My family has always supported me in every stage of life, encouraging me to study, to improve, and to believe in my abilities. We love spending weekends together, cooking, watching movies, and talking about our goals. Through these small daily moments, I have learned the importance of communication, respect, and empathy.

While learning English, I discovered new ways to describe my daily routines and express my feelings. Sentences like 'We always have dinner together every night' or 'My parents taught me to be strong and kind' help me talk naturally about my life. Learning another language allows me to share these personal experiences with people from different countries and cultures, which makes me feel connected to the world.

My Hobbies and Personal Interests

One of my favorite hobbies is music. I enjoy listening to pop, jazz, and relaxing instrumental sounds while studying or doing chores. Music has been one of my best tools to improve pronunciation and vocabulary, since songs expose me to real language and emotions.

I also love reading short stories, inspirational books, and articles about science and technology. Reading helps me expand my mind and practice comprehension skills. In my free time, I enjoy writing reflections in English journals and exploring new words that describe feelings, dreams, and thoughts.

Another hobby that I truly enjoy is watching documentaries about travel and nature. They not only show the beauty of the world but also teach important lessons about culture and environment. Learning English through these contents is both fun and meaningful.

Travel and Cultural Experiences

Traveling is one of the best experiences to practice English in real life. When we travel, we face situations where communication becomes essential — asking for directions, ordering food, or talking with people from different backgrounds.

Although I haven’t traveled abroad yet, I dream of visiting Canada and England someday. I imagine walking through London streets, visiting museums, or talking with people who speak English natively. It would be a dream come true and an excellent opportunity to test everything I have learned.

Even during local trips within my country, I try to use English expressions: asking 'How can I get there?' or describing places in English helps me think bilingually. Traveling teaches tolerance, curiosity, and open-mindedness — values that I deeply appreciate.

Work and Future Goals

English has become an essential skill in today’s professional world. In my work and studies, learning English has opened doors to new opportunities — understanding international documents, attending meetings, and communicating with people from other countries.

One of my short-term goals is to reach a level of fluency that allows me to express myself clearly and confidently in professional environments. I would like to work in a company that values multiculturalism and teamwork, where I can continue improving my language through real interactions.

In the future, I also hope to take English certification exams such as TOEFL or IELTS, which could help me pursue academic or professional goals abroad. English is not only a tool for communication but also a path to personal and intellectual growth.

Critical Thinking and Media Literacy

In the digital age, information moves faster than ever before. Every day we read news, watch videos, and interact on social media. However, not everything we see online is real or trustworthy. That’s why critical thinking and media literacy are essential skills for modern citizens.

Critical thinking helps us evaluate information carefully, question the sources, and identify manipulation, bias, or misinformation. Media literacy, on the other hand, teaches us to understand how media works, who produces it, and what messages it tries to send.

Through my English learning, I have read and analyzed articles, news, and videos that required reflection and analysis. I learned to ask questions such as: Who wrote this text? What is the author’s intention? Is the information verified or is it just an opinion?

Being aware of these aspects helps me make better decisions and become a responsible digital citizen. In my opinion, schools should teach these skills more often, because they prepare students to think independently and not believe everything they see on the Internet.

Crime and Punishment

The topic of crime and punishment is deeply connected with justice, ethics, and social values. Every society creates laws to protect its citizens, but laws must also be fair, humane, and oriented toward rehabilitation, not only punishment.

In class, I learned vocabulary related to justice, such as law, crime, trial, judge, community service, and human rights. Discussing real examples made me reflect on how complex justice can be. Some people believe in strong punishments to prevent crime, while others think education and social support are better long-term solutions.

Personally, I believe that every person deserves a second chance if they are willing to change. Punishment should aim to repair the harm, help people understand their mistakes, and reintegrate them into society. As Nelson Mandela once said, 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

Final Reflection

Creating this blog has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my English learning journey. Each post allowed me to express my thoughts, practice writing, and connect my personal life with academic learning.

Through this process, I realized that English is more than just grammar and vocabulary — it’s a bridge that connects people, cultures, and ideas.

Learning a new language also means learning to think differently, to understand others, and to open our minds. Today, I feel proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m motivated to continue improving and sharing my voice with the world.
